As we know that American love big cars. It can be seen from the top three of best-selling cars are filled with Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, and Ram 1500 which live in full-size truck segment. And there is a full-size SUV class and filled with Chevrolet Suburban, Dodge Durango, to Toyota Sequoia.
At 2017 Chicago Auto Show, Ford introduced the latest generation of Expedition which is well-known as a giant SUV for a long time in USA. So, what are things that make the fourth-gen Expedition different to the its rivals? The automaker said that the SUV is lighter and equipped with many high-tech features.
The body of the new Ford Expedition is made from lightweight and strength aluminum.combined with high-strength steel frame. The result is the carmaker could make the family car 136 kg lighter. This is the second Ford’s model which uses aluminum after the thirteenth-gen F-150.
The updated features that is immersed to the newest Expedition are lane-keeping aid, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, the collision avoidance detection system as well as the blind spot information system, active park assist, as well as available 360-degree camera technology that also aids parking.
The exterior part, the design of the big car is still boxy like its predecessor. Up front, Ford’s designers trying to give elegance and luxury design. It can be seen from chrome accents at the grille, LED headlights, and fog lights. And at the rear, the design of taillights reminds me of the latest Ford Explorer. And I don’t really like it. I mean that Explorer is a mid-size SUV. But Ford gives a little bit change where the turn signal and reverse lights get bigger place.
It’s time to see the cabin. Ford Expedition can accommodate up to eight people. And for easier access to the third row, Ford introduced tip-and-slide functionality – aiding access to the third row without the need to first remove a child seat. To increase the luggage capacity, the second and the third row seats can be folded.
For your enjoyable journey, the big SUV is equipped with wireless charging, Wi-Fi, SYNC 3 which is compatible with Android Auto dan AppleCarPlay, 12-speaker from Bang & Olufsen, Panoramic Vista Roof, and more.
The car is offered with updated 4WD system with electronic limited-slip differential. Moreover, there’s a Terrain Management System which including seven driving mode such as, Normal for driving around the city, Sport for those who likes fast driving, Tow/Haul for better towing & hauling performance, Eco for better fuel economy, Grass/Gravel/Snow for slippery terrain, Sand for low traction surfaces and Mud/Rut for uneven surfaces.
Under the hood, there’s an EcoBoost engine V6 3.5 liter. Ford hasn’t announced about its power. The engine is mated to 10-speed automatic transmission.
2018 Ford Expedition will go on sale in the next fall.
