Seems like electric vehicles have a bright future in automotive industry. No emission that is resulted, user-friendly, able to reach more than 100 km driving range, get tax incentive from government, the more charging station, and bring latest technologies, make more people want to buy it.
And British automaker, Jaguar, takes the opportunity and developed its first electric car. Named I-Pace Concept, according to the company it’s a compact luxury SUV. But in my opinion it’s a compact luxury crossover because it looks like the combination between a hatchback and an SUV. Moreover, it’s still a concept car when introduced at 2016 LA Auto Show. But don’t worry if you fell in love at the first sight with this car because Jaguar wants to make it into mass production in 2018.
In terms of exterior design, I-Pace is still can be recognized as a Jaguar easily. Up front, Jaguar’s designers put four LED headlights which features four J-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights. Rectangle grille also featured on the concept car that we can find on F-Pace and latest XF. The interesting elements at the front are LED fog lights which are placed near the air dam with thin design and almost unseen and blue accents above the fog lights looks good in the dark.
From side, I realize that I-Pace is made to attract buyers who want to own Infiniti QX30 or Mercedes GLA. Yeah, it has the same formula as those compact luxury crossover which have conventional engines. And when I look at the rear of the concept car, it is still bring the company’s latest design language. The trapezoidal LED taillights are wide as you can see the line design from C-pillar to the rear. When the taillights on, I can see the pattern formed a curve in each lights that has become Jaguar’s identity. Just like at the front, the LED rear fog lights also placed below the bumper with thin design.
The interior of electric car feels airy thanks to panoramic roof. Jaguar said that the whole cabin and legroom were as big as some bigger SUVs in the market. Furthermore, the luggage capacity is surprisingly big, 530 liter at the back and 28 liter at the front. Meanwhile, the 3-spoke steering wheel comes up with more futuristic design. And behind the steering wheel there’s an instrument panel with digital interface which will show the information about battery condition, driving range, speed, and more. Moreover, the instrument will give a haptic feedback when driver changed the driving mode.
I-Pace Concept is powered by electric motors which are placed at the front and rear axles and there’s a 90 kWh battery. The combination of electric motors can produce 400 hp output and 700 Nm of torque. And the driving range is up to 500 km.
And if you are interested and want to buy it, just log on to Jaguar official website because the British carmaker already open the booking order and the car will be delivered in the second half of 2018 just like its official release.
Jaguar plans to introduce the production version of I-Pace at a 2017 international auto show.
