2017 Volkswagen Golf Gets Autonomous & New Engines


Finally, Volkswagen (VW) unveiled the refreshment of its iconic line-up, Golf. Yeah, the German automaker had to develop and prepare the compact hatchback very well. The 5-door hatchback gets new engines which is cleaner and more efficient, and updated features such as, semi-autonomous, gesture control, and fully connected infotainment system.

For the styling, you can notice the difference from front side to the rear. Up front, there are redesigned headlights that now comes up with Full-LED stuff and accompanied by dual LED Daytime Running Lights that forms L-shaped. Moreover, VW’s designers changed the front bumper, and a little bit touch on the grille. From side, the only change is new alloy wheels. And at the rear, you can see the refreshment of LED taillights, reworked rear bumper, redesigned rear fog lights, and new dual-pipes.

Inside, VW changed the old-fashioned instrument panel with a 12.3-inch VW’s Active Info Digital. In the center cockpit there’s a screen that buyer can choose from 6.5- to 9.2-inch. The touchscreen will display automaker’s latest infotainment system, Car-Net. Interestingly, you can operate it with gesture control.

Latest Golf is equipped with a long-list of features such as, semi-autonomous Traffic Jam Assist, Pedestrian Monitoring for Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, Trailer Assist and Emergency Assist next to the already existing Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Front Assist with City Emergency Braking System, Lane Assist, Blind Spot Sensor, Rear Traffic Alert, Park Assist, Driver Alert System, traffic sign recognition, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and trailer stabilization.

For the engine, VW introduced a new technology, named Active Cylinder Management system which allows to shut down two of its cylinder in order to better fuel economy. For petrol engine, the German carmaker offers an all-new TSI 1.5 liter producing 148 hp. And the company claims that the engine has fuel consumption 20.4 km/liter and resulting 110g/km.

And for Bluemotion version, Golf comes up with the same engine capacity but it has 128 hp output, 21.7 km/liter for fuel consumption, and 104g/km of CO2 emission. Golf GTi also gets new power, 226 hp for standard and 241 for Performance version. Moreover, the automaker also replaces the old 6-speed DSG gearbox with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

2017 VW Golf will go on sale in next December.
