A mid-size MPV from Peugeot, 5008 has been released since 2009 and now the second-generation is ready to be launched. But it’s no longer an MPV. Because the French company transforms it into a 7-seater SUV. We think the automaker follows the trend where SUV is the third best-selling vehicle in Europe.
The new 5008 is built on PSA’s Efficient Modular Platform 2 (EMP 2). The SUV comes up with Peugeot’s latest design language. Up front, the oval headlights features LED Daytime Running Lights. And to add luxury-look, Peugeot’s designers put chrome accents in the grille. In the center there’s a brand’s logo, a standing lion with ‘PEUGEOT’ lettering above it. And at the rear, the black color is combined with body color. The LED taillights feature claw-shaped that becomes carmaker’s newest signature with dark background.
And for GT and GT Line types there are some changes. At the front, you can see full-beam LED headlights featuring redesigned LED Daytime Running Lights. The headlights are divided into two clusters thanks to a line that flowing from the bottom of front bumper. Special stuffs for GT variants are 19-inch wheel (17-inch for non-GT) and Black Diamond roof.
The New 5008 has 640-liter in luggage capacity. But when you fold the third-row seats it can increase up to 1,060-liter. And if all the passenger seats were folded, you can carry objects which has up to 3.2 meters in length.
Buyer can get complete safety systems when you buy the 5008. Distance Alert will warn if there’s any possibility collide with other vehicles or pedestrians. And if there’s no response from the driver, the mid-SUV will activate Automatic Emergency Braking System (AEBS). Other stuffs are Smartbeam Assistance which will switch between the main and high beam automatically, Active Lane Departure Warning, Active Blind Spot Monitoring, Speed Sign Recognition, and Speed Suggestion system.
Under the hood, buyer can choose between petrol and diesel engine. For the petrol, the second-generation of 5008 has 1.2 liter producing 130 hp, and 1.6 liter with 165 hp. And for the diesel powertrain Peugeot offers 1.6 liter produces 100 hp and 120 hp, and 2.0 liter with 150 hp or 180 hp. The transmission buyer can choose 5- and 6-speed manual gearboxes or 6-speed automatic gearbox.
As an SUV, new 5008 is a Front-Wheel-Drive. But Peugeot’s engineers put Advanced Grip Control system for extra traction. The system offers five driving mode, including Normal, Snow, Mud, Sand, and ESP Off.
2018 Peugeot 5008 will make its world premiere at 2016 Paris Motor Show and to go on sale in Spring 2017.
