Mercedes-Maybach isn’t the only automaker which introduced newest concept car at 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Among the classic cars, General Motors (GM) revealed its latest concept car to the crowd. The American carmaker choose Cadillac as a luxury brand that perfectly match to the event. Cadillac unveiled Escala Concept, a four-door luxury sedan which is bigger than Caddy’s current flagship, CT6.
‘Escala’ name is taken from Spanish which means ‘scale’. According to company, the sedan previews design direction and technologies that will be implemented to the upcoming models. Furthermore, it can be a preview to the much-anticipated and the real flagship which is ready to compete with Audi A8, BMW 7-Series, and Mercedes S-Class.
The luxury sedan comes up with a brand new exterior design. Built on CT6’s platform, Cadillac’s designers deleted the ‘tear effect’ at the front and replace it with slim Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) headlights. The fog lights are placed vertically at the edge of front bumper. Another change is grille now comes up with dark theme and silver accent on the edge. Personally, I prefer Cadillac keep the chrome accents to add luxury look. Meanwhile the black color grille that we see in Escala is match for V-Series high-performance model.
From side, you will see that Cadillac tries something new with a liftback design. There’s no sculpted lines that will make the car looks complicated in this area. The black color combines with silver 22-inch wheels making the 4-door looks elegant. Meanwhile at the rear, there are thin OLED taillights and detail lines which makes the car a little bit fat.
Just like its exterior design, Escala’s cabin is minimalist and sleek, but still looks elegant thanks to highly polished wood, leather, light fabrics, and polished metals which is used for some materials. For the car’s information, it will be displayed digitally. The driver won’t see the analog gauge cluster anymore. The buttons that usually placed in the center cockpit isn’t exist anymore in this car. Because you can access the information via OLED touchscreen.
Under the hood, Cadillac’s engineers put a V8 twin-turbocharged 4.2 liter producing 500 hp. The engine is rumored to be implemented in hotter version of CT6.
