2017 Audi A5 & S5 is Completely New

Audi just unveiled the latest generation of A5 and S5 in an event in Germany. Don’t get me wrong I uploaded the right photos for newest A5 and S5. Yeah, at a glance the second generation of the coupe has the same exterior design to its predecessor. But if you looked carefully, there are changes here and there.

Up front, the latest A5 gets a bigger trapezoidal grille, new LED headlights that features LED Daytime Running Lights, and the engine hood gets sculpted lines that makes the car more muscular. There’s nothing different when you see the new S5 unless the ‘S5’ badge on the grille. And at the rear, the two-door car comes with new and slightly smaller LED taillights that unfortunately at a glance has almost the same form to the previous generation. The 2017 S5 buyer to get quad-exhaust, meanwhile the latest A5 only gets dual-pipe.

Inside, the A5 and S5 get similar design to latest A4 featuring the continuous air-vent strip, ambient lighting and the Virtual Cockpit display as an option. The infotainment uses an 8.3-inch display controlled by the familiar rotary push-button with a touchpad.

How about the powertrain? Audi offers two petrol engines and three diesel engines. For the gasoline, buyer can choose 2.0 liter with two outputs choice, 187 hp and 248 hp. And for the diesel, there are 2.0 liter with 187 hp, and 3.0 liter V6 TDI which has two outputs that buyer can choose, 215 hp or 268 hp. The latest Audi S5 gets new 3.0 liter V6 turbocharged producing 350 hp. All 2.0 liter models and lowered-powered 3.0 TDI are mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Meanwhile the 268 hp diesel and S5 to get 8-speed automatic transmission.

Compared to the outgoing model, the new coupe is longer and wider. Moreover, Audi said that it was lighter 60 kg than the previous one and features 0.25 drag coefficient. 2017 Audi A5 & S5 also comes up with latest active safety systems, such as the Stop&Go adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, the cross traffic assist rear, collision avoidance assist and turn assist as well as the Audi Pre-Sense systems.

2017 Audi A5 and S5 Coupe will go on sale in Europe this fall. The Convertible and Sportback version likely to be introduced next year.
