2017 Mercedes GLS-Class is The S-Class of SUV

At the sedan market, Mercedes has an S-Class as a flagship model, so does at Coupe and Convertible segment. How about for SUV class? Well, the German automaker has GL-Class which has been changed to GLS-Class recently. And the company just released the official pictures of the S-Class of the SUV.

The 2017 Mercedes GLS isn’t an all-new SUV, it’s just a refreshment of the previous GL. For exterior design, GLS comes up with a new front face. Up front, Mercedes’ designers introduced a new grille that features chrome accents, honeycomb motive, and a bigger three-pointed-star logo. In addition, there are redesigned headlights and a new front bumper. Meanwhile at the rear the carmaker redesigned its LED taillights giving a new combination.

For the interior, now GLS comes with a new screen in the center cockpit that will show you car’s information and entertainment and you can operate it via a touchpad which is placed between the seats. Moreover, we can see a new 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a new instrument panel, and new trim options. And the GLS is still can accommodate seven people just like its predecessor.

For the powertrain, Mercedes offers GLS500 (GLS550 4MATIC in US market) twin-turbo V8 producing 449 hp. The flagship variant is GLS63 AMG  that gets 577 hp engine. For US market, the German company will offer GLS450 3.0 liter petrol engine with turbo producing 362 hp and GLS350d 4MATIC diesel engine with 255 hp. Those engines are mated to 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic gearbox and optionally paired to a low-range gearbox and center differential lock. And special for GLS63 AMG, Mercedes offers AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission.

2017 Mercedes GLS is set to debut at this month’s 2015 LA Auto Show and will go on sale next year.
