The gas price is finally fall. I guess it’s the right time to buy a new truck. As we know, American like big cars, such as SUVs and trucks. And at this year’s NAIAS, some automakers revealed its new trucks to the crowd. Japanese car companies, Nissan and Toyota introduced its latest products which is ready to attack full-size truck and mid-size truck segments. Meanwhile the American, Ford and Ram unveiled the faster and tougher version of F-150 and 1500.
From mid-size truck segment, Toyota introduced its latest generation of Tacoma. The third generation comes with everything’s new from the outside and the inside. The exterior design reminds me of 4Runner, unique and contemporary. But I think it’s not everyone’s taste. From side, there are bulge fenders that makes Tacoma more muscular than its predecessor and rivals. Inside, the truck has the same design with its big bro, Tundra. There are new dashboard design, dual-zone air conditioning, and a large touchscreen for the infotainment system.
In order to fight with Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, Toyota engineers added high strength steel to enhance rigidity and overall strength. Its suspensions was re-tuned so that it could be smoother on-road driving and more capable off-road. Tacoma is powered by 4-cylinder 2.7 liter from the previous model and an all-new engine V6 3.5 liter with Atkinson cycle. The four-cylinder engine is mated with new 6-speed automatic transmission, and the V6 will also be available with 6-speed manual transmission.
After we’ve got some video teasers about ‘Truckementary’, finally Nissan revealed the second generation of Titan at 2015 Detroit Auto Show. For the first time, Nissan introduced the Titan XD that is positioned between half-ton trucks and Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The company said that XD will be the first Titan to go on sale this year and other models will follow after that. The latest Titan has a good exterior design. Up front, we can see a big grille with honeycomb motive. It accompanies the LED headlights which is integrated with LED Daytime Running Lights. Unfortunately, when I see Titan for the first time, it reminds me of latest Ford F-150. In the rear, the designer put a clean and simple design. The taillights design makes Titan looked elegant.
Inside, Nissan presents a cool design with high-quality material. Under the hood, Titan XD brings Cummins Diesel engine V8 5.0 liter turbo diesel. The engine can produce 310 hp and 752 Nm of torque and mated with 6-speed automatic transmission. Cummins Diesel only available exclusively for XD. According to Nissan, other models will get V6 and V8 engines.
The Blue Oval company, Ford showed off the latest F-150 Raptor which is to be released in 2016. Like its previous model, the company offers faster and tougher F-150. It packs with EcoBoost engine V6 twin turbo 3.5 liter. Ford hasn’t released yet the details of its performance. They just told us that it will have more power than current Raptor which has 411 hp from V8 6.2 liter. Moreover, the powertrain is linked with an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission! Insane!
Based-on regular F-150, makes the next generation Raptor is lighter 227 kg, thanks to aluminum body. The automaker put an all-new 4 wheel drive system, torque-on-demand transfer case, and Torsen front differential. Ford designer redesigned its exterior design. So, it has more aggressive and meaner face. For the first time, Ford put dual-exhaust and 17-inch wheel.
After driving alone, finally Ford F-150 Raptor will have a rival. At 2015 NAIAS, Ram surprisingly unveiled 1500 Rebel. Yes, this is a serious contender for Raptor. 1500 Rebel is made for those who likes going off-road with trucks. It features air suspension so the driver can increase its height to support their outdoor activity. Its exterior design gets some changes. Ram removed the cross-hair grille and replace it blacked-out and add silver ‘RAM’ emblem. Other changes including black headlights that’s integrated with LED Daytime Running Lights.
Under the hood, Ram 1500 Rebel has Pentastar V6 3.6 liter produces 305 hp or HEMI V8 5.7 liter produces 395 hp. Both of engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The truck will go on sale early in the second half of 2015.
