No, you’re not dreaming. BMW just revealed 4-Series Gran Coupe. I just don’t get it why BMW decided to introduce this car. They have launched 3-series sedan and 4-series Coupe/Convertible which replaces 3-Series Coupe/Convertible. And now 4-series Gran Coupe. I guess the German automaker is trying to compete with its rival, Audi A5 Sportback.
So, what is the difference between 3-Series and 4-Series Gran Coupe? Dimension. Its size is slightly different. 4-Series Gran Coupe is 0.5 inch longer and wider than 3-Series. But it’s 1.5 inch shorter than its sibling. Overall, the Gran Coupe has same exterior design. BMW’s designer only changed its roofline that is longer, and lower stance.
For the engine, the 4-door coupe has the same options like 3/4 Series. 428i uses 2.0L engine 4-cylinder with turbocharged produces 240 hp. 435i comes with 3.0L with turbo produces 300 hp. Those engines are mated with 8-speed automatic transmission. That’s for US market.
European buyers will get 420i as an entry level with 181 hp engine. Other options for petrol engine are same with US. For diesel lover, BMW offers 418d with 141 hp and 420d with 181 hp engines. All engine come with 6-speed manual gearbox as standard and 8-speed automatic transmission as optional.
2015 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe to make its debut at Geneva Motor Show next March.
